Roy Underhill (The Woodwright Shop on PBS) showed one like this being held aloft in a painting from the French Revolution. There are two versions here. Both are the same height, 9 3/4", but one is 4 1/2" wide and the other 6 3/4" wide. The narrower one has an optional inset in the shelf to secure a plate or other round object for display.
